Rutgers Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development (OVPR) helps foster research partnerships across the university, and through its Office of Proposal Development (OPD), provides grantsmanship, grant writing, and proposal development support services and resources to the Rutgers community to improve the quality and increase the quantity of research and educational proposals to external funding sources, including state and federal agencies and private foundations. The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) assists faculty in preparing budgets, obtaining institutional approvals including human and animal research approvals, submission of completed applications, and provides advise and assistance with sponsored program management and compliance issues.
The OPD works closely with the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, school deans, center and institute directors, and grant facilitators and program managers within schools, departments, centers, and institutes to develop and provide information resources and conduct workshops to assist faculty and staff to become effective and successful grant writers. OPD assists with development of large-dollar school and center-level initiatives; assists individual faculty, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research teams, and the university’s schools, centers and institutes to increase the quantity and improve the quality of research and education proposals. OPD also provides limited editing of proposal narratives for major initiatives.
This web site contains useful information to assist faculty to access resources and acquire skills and knowledge to indentify funding opportunities, to plan research projects, and to develop competitive proposals. Graduate students seeking funding should contact Dr. Theresa Delcorso in the Office of the Dean, The Graduate School New Brunswick.
Eileen Murphy is available to discuss faculty research interests and to help strategize approaches to grantsmanship and grant writing. She assists faculty by directing them to a wide variety of resources, including those provided by funding agencies as well as resources available at Rutgers. Of particular value are internal Rutgers resources to help researchers address the ‘broader impacts’ of their research, such as diversity and broadening, evaluation and assessment, and outreach.
Rutgers GrantNet and Rutgers Life Sciences GrantNet have been retired in favor of a new on-line funding search tool, pivot.cos.com, which allows faculty to easily conduct keyword searches for funding opportunity announcements, and to save those searches to obtain automatic updates as new funding opportunities are announced. In addition, Pivot allows faculty to easily create an expert profile to allow potential collaborators and funding agency program officers to identify and communicate with Rutgers faculty.
Grants.gov is the main research portal for the Federal government. It contains a searchable database of virtually all funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) for every Federal agency.
Rutgers’ Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) internal deadline for completed applications is 5 days prior to the funding agency deadline. Submit proposals on–line using the ORSP Proposal Delivery System (PDS), or contact the Grant Specialist for your department or program.
